Testimonials

My name is Bruce D. Nguyen. I am also a karate practitioner for several years in Traditional Japan Karate. I had a chance to attend Sensei Rabago's weapon seminar in 1997. He amazed me with his knowledge, experience, and his techniques’ speed and power. He earned my respect by then.

In 1999, I had better chance that I worked with him. I found out more about the man who I called “Sensei” with all my respect. In my mind, “Sensei” is an honorable teacher who masters his art and teaching with his heart.

I started to train with him on and off, but I learned a lot from this man. My karate skill and understanding of the art have improved tremendously. I respect him not only by his incredible skill, but also by his kindness, humbleness and his respect to others. That I can see from his students, his black belt students also. Sensei ‘s dojo has always opened to everyone who coming with his or her heart for the art of karate. He is my truly karate Sensei.

Thank you for your teaching.

  • Karate is the best class I could have ever enrolled my son into. When Cody was younger, a little over 5 years old, he was generally shy and passive. I worried about him growing up without having any siblings and whether he'd be strong enough mentally to handle the problems that children, especially boys, endure as they become teenagers and then men. I had heard that karate taught self-esteem and confidence, so I enrolled him into Sensei Richard Rabago's dojo. In the past two and a half years, I can see a big difference in my son's behavior. Of course, now that he's 71/2, he has matured the way all boys do. but through karate, I can tell he has become more disciplined, more focused, isn't shy to express his feelings, more confident in whatever he is doing and feels good about who he is. He knows what is right and what is wrong and seems to follow instructions well. Cody is learning to never give up no matter how hard a goal may seem to be.
Cody progresses steadily in his karate training and enjoys it more than any other sport because he can feel the benefit of what it is doing for him physically and mentally. He really enjoys attending classes every day and feels disappointed if we cannot go. As a parent, I feel a little more comfortable knowing that Cody is getting stronger, physically and mentally, and will be carrying with him the values he has learned and is continuing to build upon through karate.

  • Kali has gotten better grades this year than she ever has. She also has a stronger work ethic. She does her homework first before she does anything else. I don't have to prompt her. Karate has built up her endurance and made her legs stronger for track and field events. Karate has been a very enriching experience for my daughter!

When Lars started karate, as a five year old he had an attention span about as long as his nose and was getting in trouble at school continuously. My dad said he would take him to his friend that has a Karate Dojo.

He is now excelling in school. He has several extremely positive adult and peer male and female role models, other than his family and extended family. He has greatly improved his self-discipline, self-control, physical conditioning, coordination and flexibility, concentration, respect for authority, respect for his elders, respect for girls, respect for gains earned through hard work (not to mention that he is beginning to see the benefits of delayed gratification), respect for himself and all the kids in his Dojo and a great respect for his Sensei.

Karate has helped him develop healthy relationships with his Dojo mates. He has worked within a team, supported his Dojo mates as they compete, received support from his Dojo mates as he has competed, learned that losing is part of the journey, winning isn't everything, and that proper training and performing to the best of his abilities is reward enough - trophies and metals are just extras.

Did I mention self-confidence? Karate has instilled in him, that through hard work and dedication, he can achieve any goal he sets his mind on, that he can face any problem and attack it head on  and prevail, that when a problem cannot be overcome in one way, a different approach is required, and eventually with the correct approach and enough moxy, he can overcome any obstacle. Basically, he is not afraid to try anything.

To sum things up, Lars has made great gains toward becoming the solid, respectful young man that I know he can be, thanks to Sensei Richard Rabago and his Dojo.

  • Tyler has been attending karate at Shorin-ryu for approximately two years. In that time I have been very pleased and somewhat amazed at his progress. When he first started, I attended all of his classes and wondered how in the world he could learn all of the different moves I observed. For the first six to nine months Tyler was very determined  to learn as much as he could in the shortest time possible. Tyler attended two classes each day Monday through Thursday and made good progress during that time.

During the last two years Tyler has learned more than just the fundamentals of karate. In school it has helped Tyler to become a better listener. I attribute his progress to the emphasis Sensei Richard Rabago puts on being respectful and letting the kids know that school comes first.
One the the things that really impress me is how Sensei teaches the kids to be respectful to everyone. The kids in the classes always seem to show respect to one another. I never see the kids making fun of each other or putting each other down. Other areas I have seen Tyler improve in are coordination, self-confidence, self-esteem, body conditioning, and an over state of well-being.

I can't say enough about how much respect I have for Sensei Richard Rabago both as a person and as an instructor. He is always an excellent role model for the kids and is well respected by all.
